I can remember being able to add &mod=true to the URL, and being able to see the mod buttons/options, but you couldn't actually use them unless you were really a mod

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten it allowed you to see the buttons. lol I thought it just revealed the last IP octet of a poster if you hovered over their name...

I think they are referring to the URL based mod password from before there were actually logins. Anyone could use any username and it just posted an ID# under your name to differentiate people.

patty you still a mod for jolt? if so is utopia still around? or did jolt run them into the ground too? I can't seem to find it anywhere...

During the 2nd board generation at swirve, there was a mod password flag that we had to add to the URL to mod the boards. We each had our own.
That was like the worst possible way to do it as well.

3rd gen (with usernames and passwords!) had Moderator status attributed to the user.

No clue how the first gen boards worked like that. Just that EAT ruled them.

Haven't done anything for Jolt in a few months now... but last I heard, they had taken references for Utopia off the main forum and game index pages because the community was... shall we say... 'unsettled'.
