Hello, out of curiosity is there any plans or thoughts on having an ignore user function on the forums in the future? Something similar to what you find on vbulletin forums in which you can’t see threads or posts by users you have blocked?

There are two forum contributors who I would like to permanently block from my line of sight if the functionality exists or were to exist in the future.

Tangentially, what about a like/dislike button? It would be interesting to see whose opinions garner support rather than the screaming match we currently have on the forums.

To implement this would be fairly easy., the issue comes in at it would be a way to determine who a person’s alt handle was. And if the ignore did not include alt handles then it would render this feature useless.

Unless you want to try to ignore every alt they make which I’m sure they’d win.

just ignore the alts as they come.

What would it take to petition for a block/ignore button?

How would you want it to work for posts that quote a user that you have blocked or muted?

I don’t know how coding and stuff works, so maybe my suggestion may sound a bit ignorant, but could the quoted space become an empty box for ignored users?

I'm just saying how do you effectively ignore someone who can post something dumb and they just make another alt handle in 2 seconds.

ie.
name: celphi
message: you can't stop me

name: celphi_1
name: you can't stop me

ect.
and if you make it so that you block them all automatically., then you have another issue:

name: celphi
message: hello world

name: celphi_hidden_alt
message: hi friends

block celphi -> then i no longer see celphi_hidden_alt effectively giving away who my alt is.

If I did it, part of this would be setting some reasonable limit on forum handles (10?) which is something that we should have done a long time ago anyway.

I just don't read certain people's posts. Simple.

What purpose do alts serve?

If I am talking to someone, why do I want them to get on an alt and speak to me as someone else? I may or may not know it is the same person.

It's for players who want to change their name to a new nickname ("Pangaea" => "Pang), who want to have fun with roleplaying (we had a few professional boxers show up recently on Express Talk), or for "AT Watcher" type accounts that make anonymous political statements.

I role-played in express, but now i'm not allowed to post under any of my alts :(

It’s about the control with these types. I don’t agree with them so they must control what I say. Very common today. Sad to see indeed. If your argument can win by its merit you don’t need to silence everyone.

Earth forums always had people trolling and those were used mostly for that. I used to troll tellarion this way using his name and a few others. It was a part of the boards culture.



Nowadays all the earth n00bs can’t handle the heat and must ban everything lol crazy to see. This place was jumping, exciting and popular back in the day.


Multiple users said our threads were the most exciting thing on the forums in decades and they were banned. It is mind boggling from a business perspective that anyone would do this.


4chan has millions of users because they do the opposite of that.
