Old style of play relied fully on skill, and being able to build up without using bots. You were either good at grabbing and retals, or had an all explore build. A solo person previous to bots in an all explore build could not deal a ton of damage, but with the income and land limitations essentially removed, a person saving up cash and missiles all set can become essentially invincible given a free reign of hitting first.

This change in status means that defensive wars no longer work unless you have a monumental advantage in people, or country quality (Where the attacker can always choose to hit someone else instead). What Whooze was getting at, is that the best defense is a good offense. I told everyone we are not attacking out of hand unless warranted, I can get away with that, because inevitable I will be the one targeted when that breaks down. This is more of a statement that my decisions were not effective rather then any BS about wars 4-5 years ago.
