4) spend lots of money on tech unless you are 97% labs
5) explore for land if not attacking

I want to modify #1 and say build 1 type except bus and res in which build both in equal amounts and nothing else.

Destocking seems kind of important.

... although you must admit, it would be impressive if you could win without destocking

tourny only1 at some level or others are inactive (last was quite true at orig. game sadly) or kills others.

What is destocking? What is the optimum BPT? I've used 300 turns and I have 30 BPT.

destocking is the opposite of stocking.

On some of the servers like alliance or team, it makes sense to stockpile value in things like pure cash (2B) and bushels. Thats whats happening if you see people going from 7M NW to 40M NW. They are selling their stockpile, getting cash, and spending that cash on goods to gain NW.

BPT:

Technically the optimal is calculated as =SQRT((land goal/4)) which is usually somewhere between 70 and 80. After 100 turns I like to have 20BPT and I grow it by feel after that. Don't forget that you can keep small land and avoid being the easy target, and setup for success, by building construction sites early on. On the flip-side, building to many to early means all your cash goes into building 1 turn of stuff !

Good advice..I like to get to 20 bpt in my first 100 turns and then build 20 cs per day until i reach my cs goal(at least 80 bpt)

i build 40 cs's per day after oop.

Amount of needed cs depends on your target acres.

and to be honest unless your going for 50k+ acres 50 is fine.. i used to goto 75 but thats usually only if my land goal is 40k acres, this alliance reset I had 50 bpt and ended up with 37k acres...
