I used very much to like tourney in the long ago. You had allies as in 1a and 1b and there was no rule against co-operation so you could broker arrangements to take down a common enemy - or just a tall poppy. It was a lot of fun.
I support the current rule against co-operative play. There used to be small groups of players from the same clan who would come and play in tourney operating as a mini clan and that was not fun, no in game political manoevres just ganging up. But play is a bit less complex as a result of the no co-operation rule being introduced.
A feature of tourney play (shared with the other solo servers) which I like is the ability to fight out country on country duels. I have learned more about the mechanics of the game and developed more skills engaging in duels than I have from any amount of play in Alliance.
