btw to put the "oldest alliance" argument to rest (and i was apparently a part of the original argument):

http://atarchive.gotdns.org:8080/...ivepost.jsp?thread=158332

"fingolfin
Patron Aug 9th, 2004 19:23
1. laf, tie in existence in april 98. i believe tie predated laf by one reset. tie came over from OOA

2. sol, icn june 98 they spun off from ucn

3 sept 98 nm, and omega started
"

and apparently i remembered more back then than now.. memories faded but after reading that everything came back to me...

here's a post i made that fingolfin (and all the other fogeys confirmed), i'm 100% sure what's on that thread is accurate since it was bunch of fogeys like us recollecting and verifying facts together...

so sorry vilse for listing ICN as 1999, i later corrected myself as later 1998/1999 alilance, but i guess i'll fine tune it:

list of living alliances and when they came about

generation "0": (pre alliance server roots)
LaF (The Dons/SHIELD)
Ragnarok

-----------------------------------------

generation 1: (alliance server start)
LaF
Ragnarok (not sure, did they join when it started or they chose to stay in B?)
TIE
(major dead alliances from this era include OOA/TGA/RoCK/HAN/UCN/etc.)

generation 3: (after alliance server start)
SOL
ICN
NM
Omega
RAGE

generation 4: (post first world war)
LCN
MD

generation 5: (alliance tags formed)
Elitez

----

so can we stop changing history now makinso? you were in diapers still when we fogeys were playing this game ;) let's not get carried away into being the official game historian here

Gen 3 to Gen 4 was a tight timeline.

Gen 3 Omega starts Sept 98
Gen 4 LCN starts Nov 98

LCN was around and involved in the World War. We were in RoCKFamily, accepted in Jan 99 by Digtek, Something, and Fin.

LCN played in the beginning under the old ways with no in game tags. To be given the keys to a RoCKFamily site with all those toys was incredible.

We left RoCKFamily a few sets later to be done with the World Wars between RoCKFamily and the Omega bunch. We got in bed with EoS to form a 3rd, out side of the war, power block. Then we got lost in wars with HAN, who I might add doesn't retal 4:1. =)

I would say that LCN is Gen 3 by your definition.

As for current tiers, that list is flawed. There are 9 alliances listed, therefore LCN couldn't be on that list. Not possible.

LaF was certainly pre SOL.

If there was a snowballs chance SOL existed when LaF was playing, they were in one of the random games, certainly not on the big stage. Upon coming to the big stage, they went under the UCN umbrella. They didn't stand alone in the Alliance game until around 99 when Les took the reigns. Even then they were married to RoCKFamily.

It was easily 2000 before SOL really stood on it's own feet.

No way SOL is older than LaF.

And that chart has a number of errors in it.

For example, RoCK came out of CA (Chinese Alliance).
(Terran) Avengers are older than SoF, LCN, RAGE and all of those. They operated under UCN in the great HAN war. If you remember Mist, she ran that alliance.
WDA merged into RoCK very early on.
Everyone remembers that Axis merged into RoCK, but SL merged into them the same set. Star league was a separate alliance that merged into RoCK, and left later. It was not a spin off. Blood Saber ran SL.

Anyway, cool old stuff.

Also, there's no way it can be SoL's 75th set, because the current set is only LaF's 72nd set.

It is SoL's 71st set at best.

Once again, perhaps, but I doubt it, it's possible that Iron Gauntlet started playing in say game H or something 75 sets ago. It wasn't on the alliance server, SOL came out of the old random games.

So, maybe, just maybe, old Iron Gauntlet started playing 75 sets ago on a random server with a buddy from down the street, so two of them were an "alliance" well outside of the game. They called themselves SOL while in the random game? Who knows?

It's no way near 75 sets in the alliance game. Likely that was just part of the recruitment campaign for the war SOL was planning.

I've thought about this today.

The thing is that SOLs fundamental statement is correct, and LaF is bad at math. I'll use the reference points I know.

LCN started in November 98. That puts LCN in their 73rd set right now. I absolutely buy that it is SOLs 75th set. LCN came in 2 sets after the great HAN war, and SOL fought in the HAN war as an alliance in UCN.

75 sets seems dead on. I know for a fact that SOL existed inside UCN in July
98, which was 75 sets ago. That's 75 sets minimum in the alliance game. if you count the random games, SOL is older than 75 sets.

If LaF is stating that they are in set 72, then LaF is wrong and bad at math. That would make them younger than LCN, and that is not the case.

I wouldn't be surprised if LaF was in it's 82nd set, but it's not their 72nd.

actually scratch that. it may have started in 2005 when there were changes to ghost acres (they were removed). the thing to realize is that it probably occurred with some other changes when mehul was definitely running earth and so he would do his once every 99999 year update. i am 90% positive it was 2005 with the ghost acres change

Let's do some math.. also listing some of the alliances who existed today that was around back in 1998.

April 1998 - LaF was existing as a solo tag (before 1A there was SHIELD/Don in the primary servers that merged to form LaF)
June 1998 - SOL broke off UCN, before they had their roots in the primary servers also.

January 2004 - Last reset of 3 month resets. From April 1998 to January 2004 there's 23 resets of LaF and 22 resets of SOL.

January 2004 - January 2012 = 2 month resets. 8*6 = 48 resets.

This is LaF's 72nd reset, and SOL's 71th reset.

I don't think we can count the SHEILD/Don days or SOL's days in UCN since #1 there was no dedicated alliance servers just a bunch of groups playing in the primary servers and #2 they weren't standing on their own (being merged into someone makes you a part of their alliance, not your own).

And looks like Xinhuan is right =)

UCN started out as a different animal. It was more of a present day United Nations. Klingon didn't have an operating alliance called UCN. He pulled a bunch of little alliances together to form UCN.

If you had asked the alliances involved back then, they wouldn't have felt that they stopped existing or were anything but their alliance in a coalition.

SOL counts its first reset as may 1998, when SOL moves from 1B to 1A (because 1B was beeing shut down), the time in 1B when SOL was formed, is counted as reset 0.

SOL did join 1A under the UCN umbrella, but like Brink stated, UCN during that time, operated more like a UN style operation, not a alliance per say, Each division/council in UCN was a own alliance with their own site etc. The only core part of UCN itself was the central council (White council), and after Phoenix/Storm/SOL/ICN/TMA left UCN after the UCN/HAN war that set, i belive only the white council and the avengers was left under the UCN umbrella, this was the time when fin stepped up and UCN became more of the alliance we know as an alliance, but i digress.

From our archives i read that el paco and Daniel started LaF in early 1998, he writes that it started as tag "Don" with 20-30 people from his school, then took a reset off and started LaF in i quote "the summer of 1998"

If the oldest alliance is interesting, i guess we would have to find spesifics about this,i belive both alliances started at about the same time, but i would lean against SOL beeing counted as oldest as we didt take a break in reset 0 :)

My two cents
