dont get me wrong, I like my carolina panthers far better than my college football teams (UNC aint that good and they cheat, and my alma mater UNCC just entered the FBS this year making the fasteat jump ever from FCS to FBS, 2-1 so far too!), but if we are talking about watching football just to watch it, no fandom involved, college all the way.

Huh. Never knew you were a UNCCer. Love watching the 49ers play when I catch them on TV, still haven't made it over to see them in person but I really should sometime this year. Just don't have any reason to spend time in the university area so I never think about it I guess.

I'll take my Gators over the Panthers any day and College Football is always better than the pros...

Watching this game I'm at a complete loss as to how good and bad these two teams are. One moment Ole Miss looks crazy dominate, the next Alabama is making them looks stupid.

Hrm. You know... I'm not entirely sure. I found the site by random somehow and ended up playing tourney but got bored and after that round was over I quit. One of you oldsters might be able to place the timeing... I remember the topic of conversation at the time was Earth Day. Either it had just happened or was happening.

I do know I started back and in 1A in 1999.

Funny... in all these years since I've only played one other tourney game, waiting to start my first set in 1A back in 99. Just not my thing.

Also, it's typically not that the cashier thinks you are that young or that you are up to no good. It's because they think you are undercover and that if they don't card you, they are out looking for a job te next day. In the US that's controlled at both a federal and a state level so in some states they also could find themselves in handcuffs getting a ride to the local jail as soon as they hit the payment key.

And all of that is on top of fines for the person and the business.

Given my history?

Hmm...

Assuming that demolishing Russia completely with superior firepower isn't possible - always my preferred method of combat - I'd probably slip a small group of elite fighters in under assumed names to cause havoc when and where we could.

Though personally I like Servant's plan best of any I've seen so far.

South Carolina has a cool story behind their flag...

From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_South_Carolina

"In 1775, Colonel William Moultrie was asked by the Revolutionary Council of Safety to design a flag for the South Carolina troops to use during the American Revolutionary War. Moultrie's design had the blue of the militia's uniforms and the crescent.

This flag was flown in the defense of a new fortress on Sullivan's Island, when Moultrie faced off against a British fleet that hadn't lost a battle in a century.

In the 16 hour battle on June 28, 1776, the flag was shot down, but Sergeant William Jasper ran out into the open, raising it and rallying the troops until it could be mounted again. This gesture was so heroic, saving Charleston, South Carolina, from conquest for four years, that the flag came to be the symbol of the Revolution, and liberty, in the state and the new nation.

Soon popularly known as either the Moultrie Flag or Liberty Flag, it became the standard of the South Carolina militia, and was presented in Charleston, by Major General Nathanael Greene, when that city was liberated at the end of the war. Greene described it as having been the first American flag to fly over the South.

The palmetto tree was added in 1861, also a reference to Moultrie's defense of Sullivan Island; the fortress he'd constructed had survived largely because the palmetto trees, laid over sand walls, were able to withstand British cannons."

Palmetto trees are crazy dense with fluid when fresh cut. The cannon balls would just bounce off the walls.

Both, basically. I tend to favor small and local when it's local to me. I don't go out of my way to hunt down small and local when I travel unless I'm going to be there long enough to make it worth the effort (or someone has recommended a place to me.)

I gave up any attempt to care about how much the movies match the book when they announced that their would be 3 of them. Doing so would only irritate me so I'm taking the approach that the movies are standalone and there is no book.

The first movie was very uneven in tone, trying to mix the comic elements with the dramatic.

but actually I thought it was quite a good shot at a middle of a trilogy.

You realize that the average SAT score for the class of 2013 was like 1,002... right? That puts him a hair over average intelligence... which is quantifiably not stupid. I don't like him as a QB, but calling him stupid is a bit over the line.

If memory serves me correctly RED had something like 1 pure netgaining reset mixed in with like 3 of war before March of 2001. TGA, SoF, and Cult I'm thinking? I came in from Tourney on the tail end of that last one so my memory is a little foggier on the earlier ones.

But yes, it's not exactly cold in my part of the world but it'll still be warmer back in Florida when I head down for Christmas. Probably. I have seen it the other way around.

I don't think Miss St is totally sunk - that was a game more on the road than not vs a team picked to win Big 12 - but you still look to have a long year a head of you.

TaM will be good, but will stumble. JF will have a good year but finish well off his numbers from last year. He would likely be invited back to NY but won't win again. Defense is a serious concern.

Speaking of which... Georgia has some issues. Granted that Clemson plays damn good offense, you can't have a defense that porous and expect to win.

Clemson will probably lose to USC but will likely win the ACC. The real question is if they have a typical random loss to a lesser team or not. Either way, no BCSCG for them.

Alabama vs Ohio St seems like the safe bet at moment. Alabama because I'll believe they won't make it when they don't at this point. Ohio St because they play a soft squishy schedule that should earn them little respect but won't prevent them from playing for it all because they are Ohio St and because pollsters are morons.

It affected me only in odd ways of avoidance. I switched jobs about a month before, the company I had worked for wound up over there for several months afterwards helping restore connectivity. Had I still been with them I'd have gone as well.

Having spent the first 25 years of my life in Florida I've lived through more hurricanes then I can remember. Several Cat-3, one or two Cat-4's I think, but nothing so devastating.
